This festival is going to put Malaga on the map of Europe’s most innovative festivals
This promotional pitch for Foolk Festival, found on the instagram page of one of the main organizers, is not an exaggerated statement. With a duration of two days: Friday, May 31st and Saturday 1st of June, a schedule packed full of versatile dj-sets and sonovisual performances.
Foolk: an overview of its past
The much anticipated 2-day fiesta electronica, is a rejuvenated version of the initial project; which took place in Villanueva de Algaidas, almost 10 years ago, it was when the festival was last heard of. The vision behind it was reuntroducing the Andalucian ancestral folk genre named Verdiales, whose origins remain unwritten. By inviting Electroverdiales, Foolk took it upon itself to mark the “passage” from the original version of Malaga’s musical heritage, to its marriage with synthesizing and digital means.
Foolk Festival 2.0
Making a comeback of the highest degree, Foolk Festival, rose from the ashes, with the help of provincial Deputation of Malaga (Diputación Provincial de Málaga), who is in charge of the organization. Joining forces with the centre of contemporary art La Térmica, to throw one of the most exemplary shows of the recent avant- grarde. Jaw-dropping, mind- altering numbers and performances by exceptional selection of handpicked artists, whose workmanship cannot be contained by one title of unilateral artistry. Ryoichi Kurokawa will be there. Let that sink in for a second… I am talking about the Japanese time-sculptor and Berlin resident, who utilizes digitally generated means and architectural concepts. This very bright multimodal artist will honour the audiences of Malaga by displaying his intersectional pieces, which blend audio, image and architecture in ways only a few can claim to follow.
