Two consecutive Dolphin visits to Benalmádena Coast

Beachgoers at Benalmádena were treated to not one, but two delightful sightings of dolphins over the weekend. On Saturday, August 3rd, two dolphins made an unexpected appearance near the shore of Playa Carvajal. The playful creatures captivated onlookers with their graceful movements and joyful antics, creating a memorable experience for all who witnessed the event.

The dolphins, believed to be a mother and her calf, swam close to the beach, drawing a crowd of excited spectators. Children and adults alike watched in awe as the dolphins leaped out of the water and swam in synchrony, showcasing the beauty and intelligence of these magnificent marine mammals.

Frequent Visitors to Costa del Sol

This is not the first time that dolphins have been spotted along the Costa del Sol. The region is known for its rich marine biodiversity, and sightings of these intelligent mammals are relatively common. The frequent appearances of dolphins in these waters highlight the importance of preserving their natural habitat and ensuring the health of the marine ecosystem.

A Heartbreaking Decision

Unfortunately, the joy of the moment was overshadowed by a tragic turn of events. One of the dolphins, the calf, appeared to be in distress and was found to be severely injured. Despite the best efforts of local marine biologists and rescue teams, it was determined that the young dolphin’s injuries were too severe to be treated. In a heart-wrenching decision, the calf had to be humanely euthanized to prevent further suffering.

Another Sighting at Las Gaviotas

The following day, on Sunday, August 4th, another group of dolphins was spotted at Las Gaviotas Beach. This second sighting further delighted beachgoers and reinforced the idea that dolphins seem to enjoy the waters of this particular region. The frequent visits of these marine mammals to the Costa del Sol are a testament to the area’s thriving marine life.

Captured by Local Photographer

All this information, along with stunning pictures and videos, was shared with Diario Sur by a local photographer who was present at both events. The visuals captured the beauty and tragedy of the encounters, providing a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by marine wildlife and the importance of conservation efforts to protect these incredible creatures.
