In order to reduce the surging MRI scan waiting list, the Regional Hospital of Malaga has thought of a solution. Scheduling appointments for MRIs until 2am throughout the week is their suggestions to make this situation mild. Of course, this decision has been received with different opinions. Some are excited and happy, as quicker diagnoses are needed for patients. On the other hand, others question patients being scanned past midnight.
To summarize, an MRI scan is simply a diagnostic tool that’s vital, as it reveals hidden health issues. Patients who go through the procedure of an MRI scan might complain about the beep sounds inside the cylinder or additional discomfort. However, they are often quite grateful that this tool can reveal things and contribute to their health and healing. Now, apart from those common complaints, Malaga residents have been going through a different type of issue. They found themselves waiting in long lines and still not manage to get the MRI scan that they were waiting for. Which is why the hospital has finally come up with the idea of fighting against those long queues and delivering faster work.
Urgency for more MRI scan
José Antonio Ortega, the hospital manager, is the one who announced this incredible news due to the urgency of maximising resources. Moreover, with three MRI scans working until 2am, staff gets to attend to patients quickly. This overall also reduces the reliance on private healthcare, which sometimes experiences quite a burden because of this. Deputy medical director Silvia Rodríguez shares that there’s a chance for some patients to miss their midnight appointments. In such an unfortunate case, she recommends requesting alternatives. Although she does emphasise that the justification of absence in such cases is crucial,.
One might wonder how bad the situation was for the hospital to come up with such a measure. Now, the thing is, recent data shows that some of their patients would be waiting for up to 200 days to finally see the day of their appointment. That is way over the standard waiting days for an MRI scan appointment. Which, of course, means that such an initiative simply aims to fix this. The expected results of this initiative will be 25 to 30 daily scans if everything goes well. Perhaps the neighboring Hospital Clínico will take some note of this initiative, as they are also going through extensive MRI queues.
