Malaga’s Second Home Allure: International Ranking Unveiled

According to the recent international ranking, Malaga secured its position as the fifth favourite city worldwide for second home buyers. The result of this international ranking shows how much Malaga appeals not only to visitors but also to home buyers.

Malaga in the real estate market

Malaga represented Spain in this ranking as the only city that is among the top five scorers. By surpassing its spanish counterparts, Malaga proves its allure among prospective second home buyers. GetAgent, a real estate agency comparator, is the one that conducted this research in 2024. The agency highlights Malaga’s increasing prominence in the international real estate market.

Malaga is highly known for its architecture, museums, sun-kissed beaches and local delicacies. According to GetAgent, these characteristics make the city the ideal destination for art and sunny weather lovers. This also increase its desirability among home buyers.

At the beginning of the research, Gold Coast, a city in Australia, gained the throne. Lately, the city has seen a major increase in house prices due to its popularity. Many people rave about this city because of the beautiful theme parks and beaches.  Gold Coast welcomes visitors regularly to enjoy what the region has to offer. The spectacular surf beaches along the coast is simply a surf heaven for surfers. Melbourne, also a city in Australia, scored second, making Australia the most desired second home location.

At third place, we have York from the United Kingdom. York is another city famous for its architecture and rich history. Quite similar to Malaga characteristics, right?  South Africa scores fourth place, right next to Malaga the fifth. Malaga has also experienced an uprising in home prices by 20% over the past year. Valencia, also a vibrant Spanish city and home of paella, ranked 18th in the results.

GetAgent shares that geographical boundaries highly influence the options available for home buyers. New Zealand, United Kingdom and Spain are one of the countries garnering most interests in this topic. Moreover, it is revealed that Spain is the seventh most sought after destination with approximately 29,200 annual search volume.
